After 14 years of inactivity , two Bitcoin wallets containing a total of 20,000 BTC were activated on Thursday night.
These are two of the three wallets that received this BTC in April 2011 from the wallet “ 1HqXB…gDwcK ”. Each wallet received 10,000 BTC and just transferred all of it to the new address within 30 minutes.
Previously, the third wallet containing 3,377.83 BTC was used since 2011. The new receiving addresses have not shown any further activity yet.
After 14 years of inactivity, the 20,000 BTC have increased in value from $7,800 to $2.18 billion (an increase of 13,982,800%). The identity of the owner, the reason for the transfer, and whether the same person controls both wallets remain unknown.
Bitcoin is currently holding steady, down just 0.09% to $109,064 . In recent weeks, it has held firmly above the $100,000 resistance level .
Analysts say a long-term macro catalyst could push prices above the historic high of $118,000.
