According to the latest chart from Galaxy Digital, 2025 is on track to be the most dangerous year ever for cryptocurrency owners .
Analyst Alex Thorn said that just half a year has passed, the number of physical attacks targeting crypto owners has exceeded 25 cases, almost equal to the whole of 2023 and approaching the level of 2018 - years that recorded many serious incidents.
Cryptocurrency-related extortion and kidnapping cases on the rise
Countries like the UAE and India are seeing a significant increase in extortion attempts targeting crypto users.
The most prominent case was the kidnapping of David Balland , co-founder of Ledger wallet, when he and his wife were kidnapped from their home in January and were luckily rescued later.
There was also a failed kidnapping of the daughter of another cryptocurrency entrepreneur in France, raising alarms about the dangers of crypto investing.

In the wake of serious incidents, French authorities have stepped up protection for entrepreneurs in the cryptocurrency industry .
At the same time, many companies have started offering separate insurance packages, specifically for crypto traders , to minimize the risk of losses due to crime.
The idea of establishing a task force like “Bitcoin Mossad” has been proposed to protect long-term crypto holders by hunting down criminals involved, demonstrating the urgency of protecting this community in a context where security is increasingly threatened.
